Teaching

For some reason my students seem to enjoy me. While teaching evaluations are biased for people like me (read: man) some of their qualitative feedback is useful and makes me happy. Below are some courses I have taught and some nice things students have said about those courses.

Parties and Interest Groups (Spring 2018)

  • I originally came into the class because I needed one additional upper division class to graduate; I had never had any particular interest in political science before. However your class turned out to be one of the most interesting, informing, and engaging I have had in my four years at CU. You got me actually interested in the subject material and I never felt like my lack of previous knowledge was a problem. No suggestions besides keep doing what you're doing! Thanks for a great semester!

  • I thought the class was well put together. there was a lot of reading and writing but he was flexible to help us succeed

  • I really enjoyed Ian as a teacher this semester. He's really funny -- made me laugh every day. The class was challenging and interesting.

  • Give Ian his pHD.

  • I thought this course would be insanely boring when I signed up for it, but you made it fun and entertaining. I learned a ton!

  • Ian is a funny, engaging professor. He cares a lot about his students and course(s), but many students did not actively reciprocate those feelings. Regardless, Ian was always happy and attempted to engage his students.

  • good guy great class

  • Made class fun to be in

  • I learned a lot of information without feeling overwhelmed. Ian did a great job making the class interesting.

  • Best teacher I've had the past year.

Quantitative Methods (Fall 2018)

  • You're funny-- sorry our recitation was so unresponsive to your jokes.

  • Ian is the GOAT

  • I really appreciate how quick you are to answering emails and getting back to us when we have questions and problems with R. & that you were willing to help whenever R gave weird error codes. I also think that you did a good job in recitation in helping us to better understand the graphs and models and breaking down your expectations on our assignments.

Quantitative Methods (Spring 2017)

  • Ian is the BEST graduate student on campus, and I was very lucky to have gotten assigned to have him as my TA. He is passionate about what he teaches and makes it more fun than I thought it could be. He has a great personality and is very efficient at explaining things to us students.
